I found out in late June that I was expecting twins. What a suprise! The whole pregnancy had been a bit rough with spotting and occasional bleeding and now twins?!? I couldn't believe it!

At 8 weeks I went in for an appointment with my doctor and everything looked great! Both babies had strong beating hearts and all we could do now was wait to make it past the 13 week mark where things became a little more permanent. At 11 weeks I went in for an ultrasound and so they could measure the fluid on the back of the babies necks to rule out any syndromes. Since I am only 29 and have one beautiful and healthy 22 month old I assumed it would just be another peak at my babies and an assurance that they were both there and breathing. That is when my world was turned upside down again.

Baby A looked great and both babies had heart beats around 170bpm. When she measured the fluid on the back of baby B I could tell something was wrong. She prompltly provided me a photo of each baby and left to get the doctor. About 45 minutes later the doctor came back and explained baby B had about 4mm of fluid on it's neck and they wanted to see if they could get a better look. A vaginal ultrasound also turned up what they believe to be an omphalecele. They had the geneticis come in and explain the gravity of the situaiton and offer a CVS. I declined and asked what other options I had. He explained that at 15 weeks they could do another ultrasound with the option of an amnio. I decided that would be the route I take and made an appointment for August 24th.

I am looking for some hope that these babies will be coming home with me next year. I know that the situation does not look good and I am hoping to find others like me who went through something similiar that can shed some light on what to expect over the next few months. I know that all we can do now is wait and I am trying to stay positive.
